At the time that EdgeAlliance began construction of its first project, Sawyer Gardens, in 2004, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago reported that there were only 55 units of housing on the west side designated for people with HIV/AIDS. EdgeAlliance more than doubled the capacity of the west side of Chicago to respond to the crisis. Our next developments, Alpha House and The Liberty, will address the housing and services needs of Veterans who are homeless. Our Approach All of the buildings we have developed are of the highest quality. In addition to private apartments with a full bathroom, kitchen and dining areas, each building has community spaces for meetings and programs. Wherever possible, green design features are incorporated, such as the use of low VOC (volatile organic compound) paints and sealants instead of conventional materials. These and other environmentally conscious design features help improve indoor air quality and contribute to a healthy living environment. Transforming Communities EdgeAlliance’s real estate development team helps create healthier, more economically stable communities. The North Lawndale campus added 66 new units of dedicated SRO and multi-family housing. This was just the start of building a more vibrant neighborhood. After the construction of several of our buildings, many dilapidated homes on the block were razed and replaced with single family homes. A church at the corner of 13^th and Sawyer tore down its old structure and built a new facility.
